Our story
NordName is an Finnish domain name registrar and web hosting provider. We are accredited with ICANN and many ccTLD registries such as .FI, .EU, .UK, .SE, .NO, .ME, .AI and many more.
Our company was founded as a family company in 1987 when we performed software development. In 2013 we noticed a lack of internationally accredited domain name registrars in Finland, and decided to become one.
As a domain name registrar, being European, data privacy and freedom of speech are very important to us. We also aim to participate in meetings and conferences of the Internet's governing bodies such as ICANN and the ccTLD registries, where we can drive the interests of Europe and Nordics.

It is very important to us that our company and our owners are European and we remain an independent business. Many of the businesses in the domain industry keep getting sold to multinational corporations, which in our experience leads to worse service quality and predator-like price increases. We will stay European and independent forever!

Privacy
We want to ensure that the personal data of our customers is stored in as close proximity to our customers and not at the other side of the world. Actually, nowadays in case of gTLD domains, the personal data of domain owners is kept only at the registrar. With us, in case of most gTLD domains, the domain owner data is kept within Finland, Europe.

Freedom of speech and local jurisdiction
It is vital to us that everyone can express themselves freely online. The country of the domain registrar plays a vital role here, because it is the legislation of that country which determines what is legal and what is not. Since we are a Finnish company and freedom of speech is well protected in Finland, this also extends to domain names registered with us.
In other words, when you purchase your domain from us, you support an independent, family-owned business, your data is not transferred out of Europe and your domain names are subject to European legislation! We exist for ideological reasons.
